Children's Competition!

Athlone Library invites you to take part in a unique storytelling project for Heritage Week.

We’re seeking 10 original diary‑style entries imagining what the 1691 Siege of Athlone would look like if it unfolded in today’s world...

You can choose to tell the story of the siege from the point of view of the Jacobites or Williamites.

Drop your entry into Athlone Library before the competition deadline and the best entries will be illustrated and showcased in Athlone Library throughout Heritage Week.

Submission deadline: July 18th

For ages 8-13 years of age.

Join us in Athlone Library every Friday at 11.30am for our Toddler Story Time session.

No booking is required and all are welcome!

To celebrate International Chess Day this July,

Kilbeggan Library are hosting a fun chess tournament for children aged 8-13 on Monday 20^th July at 2pm.

All abilities are welcome to take part.

Please note that, as will all our children's events, parents/guardians must stay on-site for the duration of the event.

Join us for a Summer Stars Mega Monster Doodle on Monday 20th July from 2pm to 3.30pm.

Drop into Kilbeggan Library to add your drawing to the big Summer Stars monster sized doodle!

This event is suitable for children age 4+. Drop in at any time between 2pm and 3.30pm - no booking required. 

All children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

This event is part of Westmeath Libraries programme of events for Summer Stars 2026.
